Hyderabad, Jan 28 (.) Telangana is set to host the 74th B.N. Mullik Memorial All India Police Football Championship from March 23 to April 5.
As many as 53 teams from across India are expected to compete in the event, announced DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy here on Wednesday.
Reviewing preparations here, Reddy highlighted Telangana’s football legacy, noting that five players from the state were part of India’s 1956 Melbourne Olympics team, most of them serving in the police force. “Hosting this championship is an opportunity to revive football interest among police personnel,” he said.
The tournament will feature 125 matches at venues including GMC Balayogi Stadium (Gachibowli), HFC Ground (Aziz Nagar), and Srinidhi FC Ground (Moinabad).
Around 1,410 players and officials are expected, with accommodation at Telangana Police Academy, Rajendranagar, and 45 special buses arranged for team transport.
DGP Reddy will chair the organizing committee, with Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr. M. Ramesh as secretary.
40 referees and technical representatives will ensure fair play, while a special control room will monitor the championship from February 5.
The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for March 25, and the Closing Ceremony will follow the finals on April 5, marking Telangana’s staging of one of India’s most prestigious police football events.
