New Delhi, 10 Feb (.) Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted a cyber-investment fraud syndicate and arrested three accused from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur in connection with a Rs 31 lakh cheating case, an official said on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Sarvjeet (35), Pawan (33), and Puneet (32), all residents of Saharanpur.
According to the police, the complainant, an employee of a multinational technology firm, was duped into transferring Rs 31 lakh on the pretext of investing in IPOs through what appeared to be legitimate online platforms.
“Investigation in this case has revealed that the fraudsters had created fake, self-designed websites while impersonating representatives of a reputed investment company to lure victims with promises of high returns,” said Aditya Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).
Sarvjeet, an LLB graduate, allegedly provided a mule bank account in the name of “Sarvhit Manav Sewa Samiti” in exchange for money.
The account was then passed on to co-accused Pawan and Puneet. Pawan, educated up to Class 12, is accused of arranging and supplying mule bank accounts to cyber criminals, while Puneet, a graduate, allegedly sourced the bank account kit from Sarvjeet and a previously arrested accused, Deepak Saini, and routed it to the fraud syndicate.
Police said multiple complaints against the accused were found on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). Two other accused in the case had already been arrested earlier.
Further investigation into this case is ongoing by the team to trace the ones involved in this case, the DCP stated.
