Rae Bareli, Feb 17 (.) Three people were killed in a late-night road accident on the Banda-Tanda National Highway in Rae Bareli, police said on Tuesday. The accident occurred near Badai Ka Purwa village under the Lalganj police station limits when a dumper truck loaded with gravel collided head-on with a pickup vehicle late on Monday night. The impact was so severe that the pickup was completely mangled.
According to officials, the dumper was transporting gravel from Kabrai in Hamirpur to Varanasi, while the pickup was returning to Delhi from Jaunpur. The collision took place near Badai Ka Purwa village. The deceased have been identified as Vipin, son of Premchand and a resident of Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara, Delhi; Akhilesh Saroj, son of Phoolchand and a resident of Kunwarpur Pawara in Jaunpur; and Rohit, son of Jawaharlal and a resident of Murti Bihar Chowk, Shikarpur. All three were trapped in the front portion of the pickup vehicle.
Fire brigade personnel used a grinder to cut open the wreckage and retrieve the victims. However, they were declared dead at the scene. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. Station House Officer Pramod Kumar Singh said a case has been registered based on a complaint filed by Vipin’s uncle. An investigation is underway.
