Los Angeles, Jan 20 (.) Timothy Busfield’s part in the forthcoming rom-com “You Deserve Each Other” has been removed following the criminal charges slapped on the actor recently, industry sources confirmed.
Busfield, 68, was charged last week with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse, relating to alleged incidents involving two boys on the set of the Fox/Warner Bros. series “The Cleaning Lady”, where he directed multiple episodes between 2022 and 2025.
Busfield, 68, who faces the possibility of a decade in state prison if found guilty, turned himself in to Albuquerque police on January 13, five days after an arrest warrant was issued. He appeared briefly in court the next day and is being held without bond at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Centre. He has since been dropped by his longtime agency, Innovative Artists.
He has not entered a formal plea but has maintained his innocence. A pre-trial detention motion hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, reports DEADLINE.
You Deserve Each Other, based on Sarah Hogle’s bestselling 2020 novel, stars Meghann Fahy and Penn Badgley as the perfect engaged couple who are hiding the fact that they are sick of each other and want out of the relationship.
The catch: Whoever ends the engagement will have to foot the bill for the wedding. Pranks and sabotage ensue as they try to get the other to blink first, but along the way they realise with nothing to lose they are having fun with the last person they expect.
Busfield had been slated to appear as Bernie, Naomi’s father. The ensemble also includes Natalie Morales, Justin Long, Kyle MacLachlan, Ana Gasteyer, Hope Davis, Delaney Rowe, Lisa Gilroy and Alyssa Limperis. Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn directed they pic, and the pair also revised the script adaptation originally penned by Brett Haley and Marc Basch.
While principal photography has wrapped, Busfield’s role will no longer appear in the final cut. The release date for the film is yet to be announced. . . .
