Mumbai, Feb 23 (.) Veteran actor Anupam Kher has revealed that he staged his autobiographical play ‘Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai’ despite battling a painful foot sprain, describing the evening as a “triumph against all odds” in an Instagram post.
Sharing glimpses from a packed auditorium in Mumbai on Sunday, Kher spoke candidly about the physical discomfort and emotional pressure he experienced before going on stage. Apart from dealing with the injury, he admitted feeling stressed about performing before a full house.
“Last night at my play, Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai was truly a Triumph Against All Odds! My foot was in extreme pain before the show. Every step reminded me of it. But the moment the lights came on and the play began… I forgot. Completely,” he wrote.
Reflecting on the timeless adage “The Show Must Go On,” Kher said courage lies not in the absence of pain but in persevering despite it. He described how the immediacy and electric energy of live theatre transformed his experience once the performance began.
“That is the magic of live performance. Theatre has a joy, an immediacy, an energy that no other medium can replicate. It doesn’t allow you to hide. It demands presence. And in that presence, pain dissolves,” he shared.
According to the actor, the audience’s warmth and energy played a crucial role in helping him push through the discomfort. His post included visuals from the evening, capturing the packed venue and emotional moments from the stage.
Kher also described the performance as “deeply therapeutic,” explaining that narrating his life story, including failures, rejections and doubts, before an encouraging audience provides him with a sense of healing.
“Standing on stage and telling my own life story… to a full house is deeply therapeutic. It is my way of healing. And perhaps, in some small way, it heals others too,” he wrote, thanking the audience for their support and applause.
Beyond the stage, Kher recently shared a heartfelt birthday tribute to filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, calling him a “national treasure.” In a symbolic gesture, he wore a golden miniature of India pinned to his shirt to honour Barjatya’s contribution to Indian cinema.
The two are currently collaborating on an upcoming film, which will mark Kher’s 549th project. Announcing the film in November last year, the actor expressed his joy at reuniting with Barjatya, recalling how their association began when Barjatya served as the fifth assistant to Mahesh Bhatt on Kher’s debut film Saaransh.
Further details about the film, including its title, plot and additional cast members, are yet to be announced.
