    Jammu, Jan 10 (.) While on the first day of the fresh conduct of the selections trials among the shortlisted to select the Under-14 cricket team wherein some cricketers did not produce the original age proof certificates, the Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Youth Services and Sports today said that submission of the mentioned certificate is mandatory for attending the trials.
    Notably, based on the scrutiny of the score sheets and records, the Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Youth Services and Sports on the observations of the committee constituted had ordered the conduct of fresh trial matches among the shortlisted players to select the Under-14 Jammu and Kashmir boys cricket team for participation in 69th National School Games.
    An official statement issued here this evening said that the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, J&K shortlisted 48 best performers for the Under-14 cricket trial matches based on the score sheets and relevant documents on the recommendations of the committee constituted for the purpose.
    “These 48 players were divided into four teams and trial matches were initiated after verification of Date of Birth certificates issued by competent authorities as provided in SGFI norms,” it read.
    It further said that the Birth certificate issued by the birth registration authorities as a proof of age is considered valid for all purposes including the SGFI guidelines.
    “All 48 top performers were asked to submit original birth certificates as age proof. But, 15 players out of these 48 have not been able to provide original copies and they have been asked to submit the same by tomorrow failing which further action shall be taken as per laid down norms,” read the statement.
    Public in general and the media fraternity in particular is requested to have trust in the system and avoid being judgmental before the final outcome of the exercise, it read.
    The championship is scheduled to be held in Sikar, Rajasthan, from January 19 to 23 and the team slated to depart on January 16.
    The controversy erupted over the composition of the selected squad, in which, out of the 16 players named in the main list, three players from the Jammu region were selected, while just one Jammu-based player figures among the seven standby players.
