Caracas, Feb 3 (.) Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez has appointed Daniella Cabello as the country’s new tourism minister, continuing a cabinet reshuffle amid political pressure at home and abroad.
“I have decided to appoint young Daniella Cabello as the new Minister of Tourism,” Rodríguez announced on X, thanking outgoing minister Leticia Gómez for her leadership.
The appointment comes weeks after Rodríguez named new ministers for transport, communications, and ecosocialism. Cabello had previously been appointed by former president Nicolás Maduro to lead Venezuela’s export and tourism promotion efforts.
Daniella Cabello is the daughter of Diosdado Cabello, the powerful interior minister and secretary-general of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela. Widely regarded as the country’s second-most influential figure after Maduro, Diosdado Cabello’s backing is seen as crucial to Rodríguez’s government.
Diosdado Cabello is currently sanctioned by the United States, which is offering a USD 25 million reward for information leading to his arrest. His daughter is also sanctioned by the US Treasury Department for backing Maduro’s disputed 2024 re-election and supporting the subsequent crackdown on protests.
Rodríguez announced the latest cabinet changes on Telegram on February 2.
