Washington, Jan 15 (.) United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he has received assurances that the killings of anti-government protesters in Iran have stopped, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed reports suggesting Tehran had any plans for executions.

Speaking to reporters at the White House during a signing ceremony on Wednesday, Trump said, “We were told that the killing in Iran is stopping, and there are no plans for executions. I’ve been told this on good authority. We’ll find out more soon.”

Trump added that he had been in contact with “very important sources on the other side” and that the US would closely monitor how the crisis unfolds, without ruling out potential military action if necessary.

Later, in an interview with Fox News, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s position, stating, “There is no plan for hanging at all. Hanging is out of the question,” when asked about the execution of anti-government protesters.

Meanwhile, Iran has informed the United Nations Security Council and the UN Secretary-General that the United States is inciting violence, interfering in Iran’s internal affairs, and threatening military action, according to an official letter circulated by Iran’s Permanent Mission to the UN on Wednesday.

The protests in Iran entered their 20th day on Wednesday, evolving from demonstrations over record inflation and a steep currency decline into widespread unrest, with unrest reported in over 280 locations nationwide.

Additionally, the Iranian Embassy in India issued a strongly worded statement condemning the United States for withdrawing from key international bodies and imposing what it called “unfair tariffs,” warning that Washington’s policies have pushed the world toward a breakdown of global norms.

In a post on X, the embassy said: “Unilateral actions by the United States against the existing global order, including the imposition of unfair tariffs and its withdrawal from 66 international institutions, have pushed the world toward a breakdown of global norms. Silence and inaction by countries do not mitigate these threats; they only intensify them. These policies will sooner or later affect all countries, regardless of their size.”

Moreover, Iran has further extended its order closing airspace to commercial flights early Thursday , as tensions with the United States remained high over Tehran’s violent crackdown on nationwide protests.
