Washington, Feb 14 (.) The White House unveiled a series of Valentine’s Day greeting cards on social media, blending humor with references to recent diplomatic and domestic controversies.
The posts, described as being “made just for you,” featured heart-shaped designs and meme-style captions tied to high-profile political figures and policy debates associated with President Donald Trump’s administration.
One widely discussed card displayed an image of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro shown blindfolded and in custody aboard an aircraft, accompanied by the caption, “You captured my heart.” The message appeared to allude to a recent US operation involving Maduro. Another card took aim at the immigration debate.
Featuring an image of Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen, the caption read, “My love for you is as strong as Democrats’ love for illegal aliens,” followed by a line about flying 1,537 miles for a drink — a swipe at political opponents over migration policies.
In a separate post, Trump was shown holding what appeared to be a signed executive order labelled “UR My Valentine.” Another card referenced his signature closing line “Thank you for your attention to this matter,” styled as a romantic note.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also featured in a card joking about the many responsibilities he has handled, with the message: “Don’t make me work for your love.”
A further image revived debate over Greenland, placing a map of the Arctic island inside a heart and carrying the line: “It’s time we define our situationship.” Trump has previously expressed interest in the United States acquiring Greenland — an idea firmly rejected by authorities in Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark. The Valentine’s posts drew mixed reactions online, with supporters praising the humour and critics calling the tone inappropriate for official government communication.. .
