New Delhi, Jun 14(.) Two time Olympics medalist PV Sindhu suffered a shock first round exit at the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2026 on Wednesday as she lost 22-20, 12-21, 15-21 to lower ranked Nguyen Thuy Linh of Vietnam at the Indira Gandhi stadium.
Sindhu, the home favorite who reached the semi finals of the Malaysia Open earlier this month was expected to win against her lower ranked opponent.
Sindhu is currently ranked 12th in the world while Nguyen is world number 23.
Sindhu often struggled against the sideways drift inside the Indira Gandhi stadium arena, finding it difficult to control the shuttle. Nguyen was strong in rallies and executed her deceptions well. After a poor start, she steadily grew into the match to reach the Round of 16.
